Since they couldn't host an event in person this year, St Bride Foundation is having a #VirtualWayzgoose at which a treasury of artists, printers and bookmakers will be sharing films of their work and studios in #TwoMinutesOfType. As tradition decrees, cake will also be involved (you will need to bring your own!). There's a two minute video of the Mostly Flat studio in there amongst many others; watch them all on Vimeo and follow the day's activities on Twitter and on Instagram.

Take part in family activities in the paddock, see/hear performances in the old barns, experience artisan stalls/crafts, soak in the atmosphere from wandering performers, see folk art, hear talks about Shropshire folklore, chill out in the 'in touch with mother earth' space, enjoy the historic Victorian farm and its animals (as seen on BBC TV), enjoy a beer or festival fizz and discover the folklore trail throughout the farm.
I'll be demonstrating the heritage craft of letterpress printing in one of the buildings; if you come and find me, you can print yourself a set of letterpress gift tags featuring beautiful vintage engravings of farmyard animals!

I'll be at the Shipley Wayzgoose in West Yorkshire on Saturday 8th June 2019, along with a fine selection of other inky folk all eager to talk your ears off. This will be Shipley's third fair celebrating letterpress and the book arts—the only one of its type in the North. Attractions include private press, fine press and artist books, letterpress ephemera, posters, new and used type, secondhand equipment and bookbinding. Food will be provided by the amazing Wrapture. Tea, coffee, cake (really good cake) and beer will available all day so why not make a day of it? We will be!

Ffowndri is an amazing new open access letterpress and allied crafts studio in North Wales, with courses and studio memberships starting in January 2019. I'm one of their guest tutors. Bookfest runs a book swap each year, where children are encouraged to bring along books to exchange. To tie in with that, we're printing letterpress bookplates which children can use to record the date, their name and a rating for the book they've just read. Once the ink has dried, of course!

There may also be chocolate biscuits, if I haven't eaten them all. Take the opportunity to head on down and have a nosey and see what this letterpress printing lark is all about. A great day out for anyone with a passion for books. Mostly Flat will be in the print room all day demonstrating traditional letterpress printing on the Albion, Eagle, Arab and Vandercook printing presses and answering any questions about the letterpress courses offered by The Grange.
There will also be demonstrations & displays of Adana tabletop printing presses, hand typesetting, book sewing, embossing, paper marbling (magical!), bookbinding, calligraphy and book illustration.
If that weren’t enough there are things to buy too, with exhibitors including bookbinding suppliers J. Hewit & Sons and F. J Ratchford, The Incline Press, Ludlow Bookbinders, The Medlar Press, Hedge Sparrow Press, Jessie Miller and more. See the website for full details.

Mostly Flat is excited to be running 4 one hour letterpress taster workshops at the Hay Festival this year! There are two workshops for children aged 12 years and up, and two for adults. Learn to use an Adana tabletop printing press and get an insight into the craft skills involved in traditional letterpress printing. Come and print tactile letterpress bookmarks that have been designed using traditional movable type and decorative ornaments. I’ll have pre-prepared three two-colour designs and printed one colour of each beforehand. On the day we will print the second colour onto three bookmarks. I’ll also be bringing along a selection of letterpress printed ephemera to look at, and will have Mostly Flat products on sale.
All four workshops sold out quick, but you can add the workshop to your Hay Festival wish list to get notified in case of further availability.
